About Herringbone Parquet Flooring

With their signature pattern and association with stately homes, Herringbone Parquet floors are long-lasting in both style and material. The name Herringbone refers to the pattern which is made up of small rectangle pieces and resembles the bones of a fish such as a herring. The flooring styles available by Herringbone Parquet in our range are made from engineered wood. There is a fantastic selection of colours and finishes to choose from, depending on the aesthetic you wish to achieve.

Engineered Herringbone Parquet Flooring

The brilliant thing about Herringbone Parquet made from engineered wood is that it has the look and feel of a solid wood floor but is much more durable. The hardwearing nature of engineered flooring styles means your flooring should stay looking new for longer, providing you take care of it correctly.

Each of our packs of this type of floor contains 60 planks with left and right-handed boards to ensure you get the perfect pattern once the floor is laid. Once fitted, your floor will look as luxury as a classic solid wood style but won’t require as much maintenance and is easier to clean. Each of our floors in this range also has a 4mm protective layer which limits any damage from scuffs and scrapes.

Styles of flooring in the Herringbone Parquet range

Whether you have a modern, contemporary property or your home has a country living style, there are plenty of options to choose from with this brand.

Oak Herringbone Parquet flooring is particularly popular as it comes in many different colours and can suit most décor styles. For example, a style in smoke grey will look beautiful in a home that has industrial influences as it gives off a rustic charm and has the appearance of being worn despite being brand new.

Alternatively, a darker barn oak style may be better suited to a more traditional home. The warmer tones will make any living space feel cosier or provide an inviting surface for your hallway. This would make a great addition to rooms that have a country cottage look as the style takes inspiration from a classic barn house.

If you want something completely different and much more contemporary, choose the Herringbone Parquet unfinished oak style. This is the lightest flooring in the range and will make your room appear brighter – a fantastic option for living rooms, dining rooms or hallways that don’t get much light.

Fitting Herringbone Parquet Flooring

This type of flooring is made with tongue and groove technology, making it much easier to install than other types of flooring. The planks click together with ease, so you don’t need to be a trained floor fitter to install your floor.

As mentioned, each pack contains a set of left and right-hand planks. You will need to use one of each type to create the signature herringbone pattern. We would recommend sorting the planks into two piles before starting as this will ensure you don’t make any errors and should speed up the process.

Instead of starting at the edge, you will need to lay this floor from a central axis. Using a chalk line or straight edge to mark the centre of your room create the ‘x’ line, then a second line needs to intersect this line at 90° to create the ‘y’ line.

Protecting your Herringbone Parquet floor

There are some best practices to follow when it comes to maintaining your new floor:

  • Don’t saturate the floor with a wet mop – use a damp mop to clean
  • Don’t use scourers or abrasive cleaners like bleach as this will damage the surface and colour
  • Clean spills when they occur, don’t leave to soak through
  • Use a soft brush to sweep the floor regularly
  • Place mats in high traffic areas or near doorways where scuffs are likely to occur
