We’d all love to have a home that looks like the pages of a glossy magazine but with interior design trends changing quickly it can be hard to keep up. To help you achieve fashionable flooring, we look at the latest 2019 floor trends which offer longevity and aren’t likely to go out of style for the foreseeable future. The below types of flooring work for all homes, from small and cosy dwellings to large open spaces.

1. Scandinavian

A main interior design trend of 2019 is saying goodbye to eclectic clutter and welcoming in clean, minimal design. Scandinavian style has always been a classic and evergreen trend and is all about cool, calm and collected decor in subtle colours.

However, the 2019 version of the Scandi style adds a 70s twist by adding geometric prints and earthy colours. The practicality of multi-function furniture also fits in perfectly with this vibe. Scandi décor often uses standout pieces of furniture rather than matching sets so you can really play around with statement multi-function items to bring this trend to life and maximise storage. Choose flooring in a natural material such as wood in pale shades and try to keep as much clutter off your floor by choosing furniture appropriately.

2. Nature

Sustainability as well as bringing the outside in is a huge trend for 2019 and can be achieved in an evergreen style that won’t go out of fashion come next year. Think big open windows to let natural light in, lots of hanging plants and organic materials. In terms of your flooring, opt for an authentic solid wood, warm tones such as oak are perfect for this. To go the extra mile, consider adding botanic prints and a natural fibre rug.

According to Good Homes Magazine "Mental wellbeing and environmental issues are big news and we are increasingly recognising the benefits of our emotional connections with the great outdoors. Including natural themes in our interiors brings a feeling of well-being and relieves the stresses of everyday life.” So, you could also see some improvement in your mood with this décor.

3. Parquet

For those who want a little more interest to their flooring, parquet is the way to go. This flooring trend presents your planks of flooring in a zig-zag pattern, leaving a stunning finish that’s always been in style.

The Parquet pattern can be achieved with solid wood, engineered wood, laminate and even vinyl. To combine the 2019 trend of bringing nature in, opt for a warm wooden finish to bring character in and give your floor a new lease of life.

4. Light wood floors

As well as warm earthy tones, lighter tones of wood are also making a comeback. Tones such and birch, white, pale grey and light oak are all popular options as they make a room appear more open and airier.

Talking to Elle Décor, Kesha Franklin of Halden Interiors says these shades “can transition from casual to luxurious, without sacrificing comfort.” Combine your light wood floors with the Scandi style by adding clean minimal furniture or throw in some nature with a hanging plant and bring all the floor trends of 2019 to your home.

5. Black bathroom floors

Bathrooms are getting bolder and darker. While 2019 sees light wooden floors in the living room and kitchen, bathrooms are favouring dark and sleek tones. Kesha Franklin adds “These days it's all about bold, dark, sultry bathroom designs that evoke an indulgent high-end experience."

On top of this, the dark hue is likely to be low maintenance. So is one to consider if you don’t want to spend your weekends cleaning. To add black floors to your bathroom, waterproof black laminate can help you bring this trend to your home while nodding to the nature trend with a wooden finish. Alternatively, high gloss black vinyl tiles will help you achieve a sleek and contemporary finish.
