Engineered flooring is the perfect combination of the durability and damage-resistant nature of laminate flooring, with the irresistible appeal of solid wood. As a flooring option, it’s especially attractive to those who wish to achieve a solid wood look in their home without having to panic about its upkeep. We’ve compiled all the information you need to learn here about the cost of engineered wood flooring.

Initial costs and things to consider

As engineered wood is a hybrid of both laminate and solid wood the cost of this flooring is a very affordable and attractive one. More expensive than laminate options but less so than solid wood, engineered wood is a relatively cost-friendly choice and its price is reflective of its superb quality.

This flooring option is less affected by atmospheric changes such as excess moisture than solid wood and is generally a much more flexible product. The use of underlay with this flooring is on a preference-only basis and it’s also easily laid over underfloor heating in your home, providing you with an all-round luxurious experience. For a striking finish, engineered wood beading and skirting boards are a sensible investment.

Costs within our range

At Factory Direct Flooring Ltd our aim is to provide all of our customers with the ideal flooring solution for their home and budget. Engineered flooring is a perfect choice, combining the elegance of real wood with the hardiness of laminate at an affordable price. Our prices start at £15.89, with a max price of £54.80 per square meter. These prices are generally affected by the thickness of the solid wood veneer on the product and the source of this wood itself.

The options in our range come in a variety of styles which include typical boards and herringbone parquet flooring. These cuts come in various different stains and finishes and can come lacquered, oiled or with no finish whatsoever. Whatever your preference, we’re bound to have it in stock.

Maintenance costs

As with most flooring options which have some form of wood or imitation wood in their construction, when it comes to maintaining your perfect new flooring it’s sensible to avoid doing or putting anything on these floors that may leave a lasting mark on them.

Wearing heeled shoes, the long claws of household pets and the legs of the furniture are all things that should be avoided in order to preserve the attractiveness of your floor against scratches and dents. Brush your engineered flooring regularly to prevent dust and dirt build-up creating scratches and mop them with a damp cloth. Be sure not to use excess moisture on any wood or combination wood flooring.

Repair costs

If the worst occurs and your flooring suffers scratches or dents, then depending on the severity of the mark, there may be no cause to panic. If you opted for a more expensive engineered floor option then your solid wood veneer is much thicker and can stand to be sanded down and refinished. In this case, your engineered wood flooring could potentially have a life of around 80 years, which is impressive indeed.

Of course, the costs of these repairs are the real issue and if your floor does suffer these accidents then you will need to cover the cost of sanding and refinishing the entire flooring. However, if the mark is isolated to one board of engineered floor then you simply need to replace the singular plank. Keeping a spare box of your flooring in a controlled environment in your home is always an intelligent approach to ensuring you have a stunning floor in your home for years to come.
