At Factory Direct Flooring, we put sustainability at the heart of everything we do. What steps are we taking to cut carbon emissions and protect the planet?

Our Green Routine At Factory Direct Flooring

Sustainability is a big deal for us at Factory Direct Flooring. From the way our products are made to how we deliver them straight to your door, we take every possible step to protect our planet’s natural resources and minimise our carbon footprint.

It all starts with sourcing materials from sustainable suppliers – in other words, those who take their environmental responsibilities seriously. Our suppliers use state-of-the-art technology to improve their efficiency and help reduce waste, ensuring they meet strict environmental legislation. They also use recycled wood where it makes sense, sourcing it from sustainable forestry and investing in replantation programmes.

An eco-friendly journey from factory to front door

By manufacturing our own flooring products and selling them directly to you, we can sell the same products you’d find on the high street at reductions of up to 60%. But there’s another benefit to cutting out the middleman. Delivering straight to your door reduces the number of delivery journeys required to retailers - that burn precious fossil fuels and contribute to climate change.

Meanwhile, our click and collect service allows local customers to collect their orders from our warehouse, reducing emissions produced by our lorries. We also send out two free samples per order, allowing our samples to be sent out in Royal Mail vans instead of with individual couriers.

We are equally committed to reducing our packaging and sending all waste to recycling centres. This minimises the amount of waste we generate which would be sent to landfill sites.

Here are some of the ways we do this

  • Any flooring offcuts are sent out as samples, minimising waste from the factory
  • We minimise plastic usage as much as possible and recycle any we do use
  • The plastic sample bags we send out to customers are recyclable
  • Our pallets are made using 100% recyclable materials and are either reused or recycled

Putting our planet first

Our commitment to sustainability goes beyond our business model and working practices. We are proud to have joined forces with Ecologi.

Ecologi's ‘Climate Positive Workforce Programme’ initiative allows us to offset any carbon emissions our employees produce.

Every month, we donate to carbon-reduction projects around the world and plant enough trees to offset the entire carbon footprint of our workforce. That includes their emissions from business travel, their homes, holidays, food, personal travel and everything else.

Our top sustainability tips

Now you know what we’ve been up to, what can you do to be more eco-friendly?

When it comes to cleaning your floor, eco-friendly chemicals are actually just as effective as toxic, harsh substances.

We recommend using white wine vinegar and water, which is way more sustainable as well as gentler on hardwood floors and other types of surfaces.

If you want to go one step further and go green from the ground up, think about floor types. Take time to research where the materials have come from, how they are sourced and their lifetime value.

The longer it lasts, the more sustainable it will be.

Our suggestions

  • Luxury Vinyl Tile (LVT) - High-quality LVT flooring can last up to 20 years, depending on the installation and degree of care.
  • Vinyl - High-quality vinyl floors can last for up to 25 years as long as they are installed properly and well maintained.
  • Real Wood - Real wood flooring can last a lifetime. Although it can be scratched, it can be easily refinished to make it look as good as new.

At Factory Direct Flooring we are doing everything we can to support sustainability, constantly thinking of new ways to make our products and business more eco-friendly. We’d be more than happy to discuss our eco practices with you, so please don’t hesitate to get in touch today.
