How much is wood flooring? Put simply, the cost of solid wood flooring averages at around £35 per square meter. The cheapest is £30.99 per square metre while the most expensive can cost up to £60 per square metre.  Solid wood floors are generally the most expensive type of floor. But, for a luxurious and highly attractive flooring option, there’s no need to look any further than solid wood flooring.

Also known as hardwood flooring or real wood flooring, this choice of floor covering instantly transforms any room into a sophisticated and extremely stylish space. If you’re considering using solid wood flooring in your home, we’ve discovered all you need to know about the product. From the cost of wood flooring to its maintenance.

Hardwood flooring cost, prices and things to consider

As it's made from solid pieces of high-quality wood, the cost of wood flooring can run a little higher than other options. However, solid wood flooring proves to be truly worth every penny of the wooden flooring price. Because of the longevity of this style, and its resistance to scratches and dents.

To improve the longevity of your floor you should always install the underlay appropriate to your flooring choice and skirting boards and beading to match. With these extras, you’re guaranteed a superior finish in your home. The boards come in either a tongue and groove or click-lock fitting, though you should also factor adhesive into your cost plan. This will ensure your flooring is a perfect fit.

Cost of solid wood within our range

The cost of oak flooring and solid wood flooring can be high compared to other types of flooring that are made chiefly with cost-effectiveness in mind. However, with solid wood flooring, the quality of the floor, from design to finish, is the focus. Each board is carefully crafted into a product that instantly transforms any room.

At Factory Direct Flooring Ltd, we aim to make it possible for all our customers to achieve the flooring they desire, and have three ranges of hardwood flooring prices to suit every budget. Our most affordable solid wood flooring price range features rustic oak and golden maple and begins at £30 per square meter. Our middle range priced hardwood flooring – which includes oiled, golden and coffee oak boards – averages around £34 per square metre. Finally, our higher-price budget range of solid wood flooring has an average cost of £54.80 per square meter, often with a Tuscan hand-finished oak. We aim to deliver the best cost of hardwood flooring in the UK.

Maintenance costs of solid wood flooring

Once you’ve purchased and installed your solid wood flooring your next task is learning how to maintain your beautiful new feature floor. A good prevention against scratches and warping is to prepare in advance of any damages. A maintenance layer or lacquer is a sensible approach to prolong the life of your flooring and helps to minimise repair costs in the future.

Regularly brushing the floor will prevent dust and dirt building up and creating fine scratches. When mopping your floor it’s best to dry away the moisture from the floor immediately, so that the wood doesn’t warp and spoil. Solid wood flooring does not fare well in rooms that are subject to lots of moisture, such as the kitchen or bathroom. So it’s best to avoid the temptation to install it in moisture heavy spaces.

Repair costs of oak flooring

Day-to-day life always makes an impact on the look of your home, no matter how hard you try to prevent it. After a certain amount of time, you may need to consider fixing the flooring in your home. This involves working out the cost of solid wood flooring repairs. Furniture, pet claws and heeled shoes can all leave marks on solid wood flooring. These accidents can mar the appearance of your floor and increase the wood flooring cost.

The cost of fixing scratches in your solid wood flooring doesn’t have to be extortionate. For smaller scratches, fill in the mark with a permanent marker. Or carefully apply a small amount of stain marker to match the colour of your floor before wiping with a clean, dry cloth.

For larger scratches and dents, you'll need to sand down your floor before filling the dent and then refinishing. Obviously, this measure is quite an extensive one. The cost of a sander, new varnish and filler will have to be factored in, as well as the cost of your time! To ensure you don’t have to take such measures it’s much wiser to prevent these damages from happening in the first place. So that you can keep the cost of solid wood flooring to a minimum.
