Maintenance Guide For Natural Oiled Floors
You may or may not know that wood flooring requires regular maintenance following installation. However, the level of maintenance that is required largely depends on the nature of the wood itself. With natural oiled wood flooring, it is recommended that you begin the maintenance process as soon as it has been installed. Although natural oiled flooring will become easier to maintain over time, it can take a while to become as strong and resistant as it can be. This is a result of the fact that the soap used to clean it actually establishes a protective film to protect it and make it more resistant to the effects of dirt.
If necessary, natural oiled wood flooring can be re-oiled a little further down the line to ensure that it does stand the test of time, but you do need to properly maintain it in the meantime.
After Installation Care
It is highly recommended that all natural oiled wood flooring be finished with WOCA Maintenance Paste. This should be applied immediately after installation is completed and before anybody sets foot on it. This will undoubtedly help to strengthen it and make it much easier to clean.
Basic Maintenance And Cleaning
To remove a build up of debris and dirt on the surface of your natural oiled wood flooring, simply use a broom or a vacuum with a soft attachment. If you wish to remove staining and ingrained dirt then you should use a damp cloth. However, you can also use WOCA Natural Soap Cleaner. This is non-abrasive and is perfect for wooden floors. It should be mixed with a ration to water of 1 to 40. Not only will it clean your floor but it will also help to form a protective barrier to ensure that little dirt can get to your wood in the future.
When you are cleaning your natural oiled wood flooring with this solution then be sure to have two buckets. The first should be water on its own and the second should be the soap solution. The latter should be used to clean the floor and the former should be used to wring out the mop before it comes into contact with the soap solution. This helps to remove any excess dirt from the mop before each motion to prevent it becoming ingrained. The solution should never be poured onto the floor so always use the mop or soft cloth.
Cleaning Extremely Dirty Floors
It is possible for natural oiled wood flooring to become extremely dirty over time, in which case it should be cleaned with WOCA Intensive Wood Cleaner. The ratio in water is again 40:1 and it should be used in line with the same method outlined above. Following this initial clean, clean the wood flooring with WOCA Natural Soap as above to ensure that the protective film is restored. Finally, use the WOCA Maintenance Paste to finish off.
Spot Remover
You may find that you have difficult spots on your natural oiled wood flooring. If you do then WOCA Spot Remover will work for you. It is actually sprayed directly onto the area in question and then left in place for a while because it will directly dissolve the stain. It is extremely gentle on your floor but tough on the stain. After this process is complete, clean your wood flooring and then use WOCA Maintenance Paste.
