Wood flooring is incredibly versatile and you can use it in most areas of the home (although a specialist type may be required for wet bathroom areas). One problem a number of homeowners have experienced, however, is wood flooring in conservatories.
As conservatories are more outdoors than the rest of your home, they are more affected by heat and cold from different weather conditions. A hot and humid conservatory can therefore cause your wood flooring to swell and warp during summer and possibly contract and crack in winter.
A further problem is conservatories with glass roofs, as excessive exposure to UV rays from the sun can cause discolouration in wood flooring.
Do not be put off though; wood flooring can still be a great option for conservatories. There are three ways around the aforementioned problems:
• Laminate or engineered wood flooring – Some types of engineered wood flooring are more resistant to swelling and warping than solid wood flooring. You could also consider bamboo wood flooring.
• Blinds – This is a good solution for overhead windows or glass roofs in conservatories, as you can shade your floors from the sun when the space isn’t in use.
• Plan your conservatory so it faces away from the sun
