When it comes to home decoration, accessories and finishing touches are everything. Even seemingly minor things such as the lighting in a room can make a difference to the whole mood and feel of the room, and it can even be used to accentuate the beauty of wood flooring.

It makes sense that if you’ve spent time and money installing beautiful new wood flooring- be it hardwood or laminate flooring-that you’ll want to show it off at its best.

Using floor lamps
Just by using certain lighting techniques and clever placement of floor lamps, you can completely change the appearance of your living room. Here’s why:

• Floor lamps have the ability to brighten dark corners
• They are also extremely flexible, allowing you to adjust your lighting to create different atmospheres when required
• A major benefit of using floor lamps is that they create contrast. For example, a dark-coloured lamp will really work well with lighter hardwood flooring such as Ash. For simple, unfussy floor designs, add a detailed and striking floor lamp.
• You need to think about the direction, depth and clarity of the light, and how this will accentuate the beauty of your wood flooring. For instance, a bright, intense light would produce too much glare on a dark, shiny floor, so use a softer light instead.
• Always choose adjustable floor lamps, so you can change the lighting effect in the room whenever you like.
