Hardwood flooring can be an extremely beautiful original feature in your home, but it does need a bit of care and attention to keep it that way. Cleaning only needs doing every now and again, but there are a few general rules of thumb to bear in mind…

Dealing with moisture

DO: Wipe up any spills as soon as they happen, using a dry, soft cloth to absorb the moisture
DO: Seek expert advice before using steam cleaners on wood flooring
DON’T: Leave any pools or puddles of water to stand
DON’T: Use wet cloths or too much water for cleaning

Getting rid of abrasive dirt and grit

DO: Invest in a good quality brush and sweep your floors on a regular basis
DO: Put down doormats and area rugs to trap dirt and catch spills
DO: Vacuum regularly, especially ones with wood flooring cleaning attachments
DON’T: Allow high heels or deep-tread shoes to be worn in the house
DON’T: Use a vacuum with a beater bar – it can cause dents

Moving furniture

DO: Place felt glides or pads under furniture legs to prevent scratching and denting
DON’T: Drag furniture when moving it – lift it instead.
